Model Builder Program
Model Builders is a HBASI program restricted to builders, general con-tractors and remodelers that are directly involved in one or more phases of the actual process.
The purpose of the program is not to restrict trade or deny work to any-one, but rather to recognize and advertise the professionalism of those companies that can meet the standards established by the program.
The following criteria must be met in order to be advertised as a HBASI Model Builder:

- The company has four years of continuous construction experience in either general building or subcontracting.
- The company agrees to employ competent people as employees and provide Workman’s Compensation insurance, liability insurance, and unemployment insurance. Employees will have payroll deduc-tions taken from their check as required by law and will not be treated as “independent contractors.”
- The company must provide letters of reference from three customers of either new homes, contractors, or others for whom they have per-formed significant jobs.
- The applicant must provide a bank contact for general information about their character and business practice. Also, three trade refer-ences from major vendors must be submitted.
- The company agrees to use the Home Builders Association of Southern Illinois’ (HBASI) contract and specifications as often as possible in dealing with customers to help promote the contract and the image of professionalism.
- The company agrees to promote professionalism, honesty, integrity, and the HBASI as they deal with customers and people in the home building trade.
