Who can become a Model Builder?
Admission is restricted to builders, general contractors and remodelers
that are directly involved in one or more phases of the actual construction
process.
What are the goals of the Model Builder Program?
The purpose of the program is not to restrict trade or deny work to anyone,
but rather to recognize and advertise the professionalism of those companies
that can meet the standards established by the program.
What are the requirements to become a Model Builder?
The following criteria must be met in order to be advertised as a Model
Builder:
a. This is a company or corporation recognized in the State of Illinois
as a business firm involved in residential construction.
b. This person has four years of continuous construction
experience in either general building or sub-contracting.
c. They agree to employ competent people as employees and
provide Workman's Compensation insurance, liability insurance, and
unemployment insurance. Employees will have payroll deductions taken from
their check as required by law and will not be treated as "independent
contractors."
d. The applicant must provide letters of reference from
three customers of either new homes, contractors, or others for whom they
have performed significant jobs.
e. The applicant must provide a bank contact for general
information about their character and business practice. Also, three trade
references from major vendors must be submitted.
If selected, what are the responsibilities of the Model Builder?
The applicant agrees to use the Home Builders Association of Southern
Illinois' (HBASI) contract and specifications as often as possible in dealing
with customers to help promote the contract and the image of
professionalism.
The applicant agrees to promote professionalism, honesty, integrity, and
the HBASI as they deal with customers and people in the home building
trade.
Any person or company that meets the above criteria will be accepted into the
Model Builders program and will receive a certificate of membership valid for
the current calendar year subject to renewal in January of each succeeding year
as long as no complaints are brought to the attention of the HBASI and there are
no violations in either the letter or spirit of the ethical code. Further, it is
the express intention of the HBASI to advertise the people who meet the high
standards set forth by this decree.
